The series of seven plates engraved with a mezzotint rocker and dry point were inspired by Judith Rothchild’s sketches of her model, Monica. She printed them on Rives BFK tan paper in an edition of twelve plus a demonstration copy. There are also a few loose artist’s proofs.

The images are accompanied by fragments of Paul Valéry’s text Degas, Danse, Dessin. Degas, Danse, Dessin de Paul Valéry.

The marbled papers on the covers and clamshell boxes are also the work of the artist.

The hand-set letterpress, Vendôme romain, was composed and printed by Mark Lintott on a Albion press of 1867. All of the books are presented in clamshell boxes also created by Mark Lintott. The deluxe edition (numbers 1/12 to 7/12) include one of the original copper plates.

The colophon is signed by Judith Rothchild and Mark Lintott.
