This passionate plea addressed to the American people by Victor Hugo was wrtitten on the eve of the execution of the militant abolitionist, John Brown in 1859. This bilingual edition accompanied by a mezzotint by Judith Rothchild has been printed in the form of a double leporello in an edition of 45. The letterpress by Mark Lintott has been printed on Rives BFK paper on an Albion press. The mezzotint is printed on Hahnemühle paper. The binding, slipcases and boxes are the work of Mark Lintott and the marbled papers are by Judith Rothchild . All the books are signed by the artist.
The first five copies, the deluxe edition, have an original drawing by Judith Rothchild and are presented in clamshell boxes.
Numbers 6/45 à 45/45 are presented in slipcases. Numbers 40/45 à 45/45 are « hors commerce ».
